An aerospace client needed lightweight, durable panels for rapid-deployment teams working on board aircraft. The panels had to be light enough to handle quickly and strong enough for hard use.
Material and construction strategy
We started from the client's CAD and developed a material and construction plan:
- Thermo-Lite high-density composite board for the core panel: stiff, light and stable.
- HDPE feet at the key contact points to protect the panel and the aircraft floor.
- Aluminium top skin for a hard-wearing working surface.
- Stainless-steel fasteners throughout for corrosion resistance.
We manufactured and assembled every panel in-house at our Pomona workshop.
The result
The project engineer's feedback was that the panels:
- exceeded quality expectations
- were lighter than expected
- were dimensionally compliant with the supplied specification
This job shows what good material selection, accurate CNC manufacturing and careful assembly can achieve together. The result is a composite product that outperforms the obvious alternatives.
