We were stoked to help Burl Aerospace get ready for the DARPA heavy lift contest in Ohio, USA.
It was an intense couple of weeks. The CNC work came out of Method CNC and the heavy lifting on composites came from our composites division, 26 South Marine. Together we delivered quality plugs and moulds on schedule.
Why it worked
Doing design, CNC machining and composites under one roof meant no handover delays between suppliers. Data went straight from CAD to the machines and into the layup shop.
More aerospace and education work
- We were proud to be part of the Future of Flight Science Fair, and to get a shout-out from Advance Queensland.
- We hosted the eVTOL Student Team and their mentors at the workshop. Together we wet-laminated and bagged the main fuselage halves in 450 gsm DB. We also CNC milled a PETG 80 core with 3D-printed inserts and compression moulded it with 200 gsm carbon fibre in an aluminium mould.
